Tips To Help You Care For Your Dog While You Travel

Blog

Your dog may be your best friend, but there are occasions when you need to travel without their companionship. During this time it is important for you and for them to find a safe place to keep and care for them while you are away. Leaving them at home unattended by themselves, even if a neighbor checks on them periodically during the day, can put them at harm's risk. So next time you travel out of town and need to plan for your dog's care, here are some tips to help you find a great doggy daycare or hotel.

Check In On Your Dog

When your dog is going to spend a couple days or more at a pet boarding, you want to make sure they are taken care of and happy while they are there. You can check into a pet boarding kennel before you leave your dog there, so you can see how they operate and care for their boarders.

However, another great way to make sure of this is to select a boarding hotel where you can check in on them anytime of the day via a webcam on the daycare's website through a secure portal. This will allow you to see if your dog is playing, napping, getting groomed, or eating a meal. This is a great way to alleviate any stress you have of their well being while you are away.

Select Additional Services

Your dog will likely have access to play in the dog hotel's play room, pool, and other activity areas while they are enjoying their hotel stay. But you can also arrange for your dog to get some additional pampering and personal care while you are away. For example, some boarding hotels will arrange for your dog to be taken to a grooming parlor. They will be groomed with a pet shampoo, body massage, and then a fur trimming and styling, along with clipping and painting their nails and cleaning their teeth and ears. You can even arrange for your dog to be taken for a facial.

If you want to give your dog some basic services, you can arrange for them to have some one-on-one play time with a pet professional at a place like All Creatures Inn. Or set up an appointment to run on the treadmill.

Pack Your Dog's Personal Items

As you are planning and packing for your trip, don't forget to pack for your dog's stay at the boarding hotel. Your dog will be away from you and away from home at a new and strange location, and they will want some familiar sights and smells from home.

Pack your dog's blanket and a favorite toy or stuffed animal, for example. Also make sure you pack for them to have their regular food while they are staying overnight. Having familiar sighs and smells will help them as they adjust to their time in the boarding facility.

Staying In Gorgeous Hotels

After I began traveling a lot for work, I began staying in a variety of different hotels around town. I began thinking more seriously about my choices when it came to lodging, and it was really insightful to realize that places needed to earn my business. I started being a little pickier in regards to where I stayed, and it felt great to feel like I had control. On my blog, I wanted to create a collection of interesting articles about hotels and lodging, since it can make your next trip to a new place a little more relaxing and enjoyable.
